Give Thanks

One thing I love about the month of November is the attitude of thankfulness that it seems to bring with it.  As I prepare my home and my children for the holiday to come, we naturally start having numerous conversations about thankfulness.  Sometimes we carve out time to give thanks around the dinner table or rattle off our blessings while we're running family errands.  But often, these conversations ebb and flow throughout the day as we read our Thanksgiving themed books or look forward to our holiday plans.  No matter how it happens, I am overwhelmed with gratitude when I see evidence of thanksgiving in my home.

I love listening to Nicole talk about the things that she's thankful for because true thankfulness doesn't leave room for entitlement.  The days when our hearts are brimming with gratitude for all that we have, sharing comes easier and laughter flows more freely.

All I have to do is take a quick glance around and I see evidence everywhere of Gods abundant provision in our lives.  My children are adorably outfitted in clothes generously given to us, our food is plentiful and nourishing, our house is warm, peaceful and cozy.  The toys we have are age appropriate, interesting and fun.  There are always new books to read and favorite stories to revisit thanks to our trusty library cards.  We have friends to play with and parks to explore and a neighborhood full of friendly people to stop and visit with while we're out walking.

We give thanks not just for what we have, but also for one another.  For a spouse that is trustworthy and loving, for children who are teachable, obedient and joyful and for extended family and friends who participate in our lives even from far away.  Most of all, we give thanks for Lord who is the giver of all good gifts, and the One who supplies all of our needs.  We know what love is because we know Him, because He is love.

As you prepare for the holiday season ahead, we hope and pray that you find yourself ushering in an attitude of thankfulness as well.  It's one of the best gifts of the season!

With love,
Erica
