Shawn had a longer-than-normal work trip in Northern Minnesota, and my parents sacrificially agreed to help me with the kids during the trip. We eagerly packed our bags and boarded an early morning flight to Wisconsin. Shawn dropped me and the kids off with my parents where we happily settled in for 10 days of family, fun and new adventures.
My parents do an incredible job hosting, and always make us feel anticipated and welcomed. The abundance of toys thoughtfully scattered throughout the property is just one small indication of all of the time and attention they invest in getting ready for their grandkids to visit. They have purchased comfortable (and age appropriate!) beds for all of us, as well as seemingly endless amounts of baby gear just to make traveling to see them easier on me and my siblings.
The meals are thoughtfully planned, the dishes are promptly washed and there is always a grandparent close by to snuggle a sleepy baby or to throw rocks into the lake with. Jonah and Nicole thrived in all of the spaces my parents crafted with them in mind. They adored spending time with each and every extended family member who intentionally overlapped their visit with ours and used every last drop of energy climbing stairs, conquering steep hills and digging in "the job site".
Thank you, Mom and Dad, for all of the extra groceries you bought, the special books you went out of your way to pick up and for all of the time you invested in us. You kept the kids safe and kept me sane all while building lasting memories and forming deep bonds. Your patience and flexibility were evident and the love you lavished on us was life-giving. We had a fantastic time and we can't wait to do it again soon.
Love,
Erica
