This week I wanted to drift off our normal blogging path to ask a question of you.
What kind of content/posts you would like to see from us on our blog?
When Shawn and I took the plunge and said yes to his new job and the move that came with it, one of the very first things I said about it was that I wanted to start a blog. I didn't want to loose touch with anyone and I felt compelled to be transparent about the ways we were changing as individuals and as a family. This blog has been up and running for over a year now and my desire to keep in touch is one of the main reasons I hit publish week after week. I like to believe that using this space to be honest about how God is refining us makes our long-distance relationships a little less distant.
You've done the hard work of walking with us through the most vulnerable part of our transition and I am humbled to say that God has healed my home-sick heart.
When I realized that the deep ache in my heart was gone, I started noticing all of the peace and restoration that came with it. Things that were once difficult now feel normal. The profound differences between Minnesota and Texas are now commonplace. The shock and fear I used to feel about the intensity of the sun has morphed into a level of preparedness that allows me to cope instead of hide. I've turned a miraculous corner and was met with unmistakable hope. As I took a good look at how far I've come, I realized that I have less to say about our journey than I used to.
Shawn loves his job in full-time ministry and I love my job as a full time mom. Since both of us spend so much of our time immersed in our respective professions, most of what we have to share are a direct reflection of how we're spending our time.
Shawn's days are filled with all of the behind the scenes work that goes into maintaining the health of a full-time ministry. His inbox is brimming with unread emails, he graciously answers a variety of phone calls all day long and his meeting schedule is constantly full. He thrives on solving the plethora of problems that pop up and loves working with others. He's energized any time he gets to think on his feet and create systems, which consistently adds to his sense of purpose and his overall job satisfaction.
My days are filled with the many activities that are involved in raising a busy toddler and running a household. I spend my limited downtime menu planning, reading parenting books and utilizing YouTube's extensive collection of workout videos. I write a monthly newsletter for a local nonprofit featuring information on children's nutrition, healthy recipes and a seasonal toddler craft. I also do a small amount of ghost writing for a chiropractor in town in order to help her get her message on paper. Since these are the things I do, this is also what I think about, read about and put into practice. I can continue to write about what I am learning, but that might mean that this space could unintentionally read like a parenting blog more often than not.
We'll still pop in here to share any major news or big lesson, but for our weekly "check-in", we'd love to write about what you want to know. My only disclaimer is that for the sake of keeping our family safe from any weirdo's lurking on the internet, our policy is to never post pictures of the outside our house or post specifics about Shawn's schedule.
So - leave me a comment, send me an email, or shoot me a text to let me know what you have enjoyed reading about or what you would like to see from us in the future. After all, keeping in touch with you is why we keep showing up here each week!
Love,
Erica
