You may recall that we visited the Fort Worth Zoo earlier this Spring. We loved every minute of our time there and have talked about going back ever since. However, the Dallas Zoo is closer to our house and opens an hour earlier which made it possible for us to spend a quick morning visiting the animals and still make it home in time for lunch and Nicole's nap. Our love for the Fort Worth Zoo still runs deep. but we we had a blast walking around the Dallas Zoo too.
There a few things more fun than enjoying something through the eyes of your child and our child just so happens to love zoo animals.
The Dallas Zoo has an entire area designed especially for their tiniest visitors. It has a barn with some farm animals, a gigantic tank of koi fish and a large pen for kids pet and brush the friendliest goats around. They also had a pretty extensive animal themed play ground, but we decided to skip that in favor of visiting as many animals as possible.
My favorite part of visiting the zoo with Nicole is watching her face as she recognizes the animals. I can almost see the wheels turning as she makes connections between the books we read and the animals right in front of her. She's too little to care about animal-themed restaurants, dip n dot stands or carousel rides so for right now a trip to the zoo is truly all about the zoo animals.
We love all of the moments we get to spend learning and exploring as a family. In the moment, the day feels vibrant and new and as Nicole chats away on the car ride home it's clear that memories were made.
What are your favorite things to do as a family?
Love,
Erica

We spent the first chunk of our visit excitedly walking around the elephant habit, watching as an elephant used his trunk to drink from the pond. Then we stumbled upon the giraffe habitat where we got to meet (and feed!) a giraffe. Nicole fed the giraffe all by herself and about halfway through her stack of celery and carrot sticks, her giggle was unmistakable. It was a blast.
