Celebrating all of Nicole's new words. Our growing girl is bursting with language and surprises us every single day with the words she is ready to try out for the first time. Some words like "up", "hi', "hello", "wow", "baby", "zoom", "peas", "shoe","mama" and "dada" are spot on. Others like "open" (a-bow), "grandpa" (bop-pa), "snap" (sna), "zip" (zzzzzz), "water" (wa-wa), "book" (baaa), "rock" (wra), "down" (dow), Addy (Aaa - eee), dog (a-da!), and "all done" (ah-dun) are a little more approximate. Either way, it has been purely delightful to hear every word that our eager little communicator is ready to share.
Stocking our freezer. Shawn is gearing up for a 50 day event called reviveTexas which has meant a pretty intense work schedule for him and less time together than we are accustomed to. I personally find that eating well becomes increasingly more difficult the busier life becomes so we are doing our best to be proactive and prep food together in the evenings. So far we've stocked our freezer with quinoa fried "rice, black bean edamame burgers, and frittata breakfast sandwiches. If you have any foods that you love to make and freeze, let us know! We're always open to trying new things.
Drinking tea. When Shawn and I first got married, we ended most of our days by sipping a glass of chocolate milk together on the couch. It was fun and delicious but we both agreed that we needed to swap that chocolatey goodness for something a little less sugary right before bed. Neither of us had ever really been tea drinkers but about 3 winters ago we decided to dive in and give it a try. Herbal tea replaced our chocolate milk and we have both genuinely enjoy sitting on the couch with our steaming mugs, catching up on each others days before turning in for the night.
Enjoying having a great family chiropractor here in Texas. Having good chiropractic care in Texas is an answer to prayer for us. I injured my neck on swim team as a child and regularly seeing a chiropractor drastically improves my quality of life. I looked around the area for one when we first moved but didn't land anywhere I wanted to keep going until recently. Having a chiropractor feels like one very significant step in terms of settling in here. We're still praying for a hairstylist, a dentist and a nurse midwife.
Loving Nicole's photo books. While I was pregnant with Nicole, someone suggested to me that I use shutterfly to make month-by-month photo books of Nicole for her first year. It's some of the favorite parenting advice I've been given because not only has it been an absolute blast to take the 100's of iPhone photos I take each month and turn then into something beautiful, I also have an outlet to really record and remember all that happened each month. Favorite foods, new sounds, and of course all of those sweet smiles. I have ordered every single book for free using the promotional codes that show up in my inbox every now and again. I pay about $9.00 in shipping for each book but I consider the fee well worth the preserved memories tucked on my bookshelf.
Listening to tons and tons of children's music. It's a pretty common occurrence for Shawn and Nicole to dance and wiggle to needtobreathe together but since I don't have a favorite band, I have started playing toddler songs for our music-loving little girl, especially when we're running errands together. I have been checking out various children's cd's from the library with one criteria in mind: it must have Old McDonald Had a Farm on it. Ee-I-Ee-I-O :).
Participating in the Spring semester of MOPS (moms of preschoolers). We only meet bi-weekly but I have greatly enjoyed learning the lay of the land through word of mouth and playdates. I haven't made as many friends as I thought I would but I consider it a huge blessing to be a little more familiar with kid-friendly places to spend our time, especially as the summer heat rapidly approaches.
Going outdoors as much as possible. Some days are too windy to take Nicole on a walk or to play outside, but for the most part we are taking every opportunity to head outside. Nicole loves to be outdoors so on really sunny days we've been laying a blanket out to read in the front yard. Warm afternoons have set the scene for a quick walk around the neighborhood, acorn hunting in the yard and swinging in our tree swing. Every once in a while we pack up our things and head to the park but for the most part we are enjoying our afternoons right in our own front yard.
What have you been up to lately?
Love,
Erica
